Dear Dolphin Editor,

While I am very happy to see that Sidney Collier was written up in the Dolphin newspaper, I am disappointed to see that the ARCH, CADD, and CIVT programs were not mentioned.  We are vital programs that have been a part of Delgado Community College for many decades and we need to let people know that although we moved from the West Bank and City Park campus we are very much alive and well. It is especially important to get the word out since ITT Tech shut it’s doors locally and we can help those students back on course with their goals.

Could you feature us more specifically in a future edition?

Thank you,

Janet S. Colletti

Reply from The Dolphin:

Dear Professor Colletti,

Thank you for your reply.

I was the co-author of the series, What’s In A Name – The History of Delgado’s Named Buildings, Pt. 1 and Pt. 2, along with Mary Achary, and we are in receipt of your email.
I would like to post your reply as a Letter to the Editor, something that hasn’t been done in recent history. I have been made the Managing Editor of The Dolphin as of Monday but mainly for next semester since this semester is over.  That said, I have been posting all of the published and non-published articles onto the website, www.DelgadoDolphin.net, all semester and would like to publish your reply–and answer your letter as well, online.  This will get the word out about your programs.
In short, while Mary Achary and I may have deviated a little on some of the buildings, for the most part, the series was supposed to be about the history of the names, not all of the various academic programs that take place at each campus or in each building.
As a separate article, I would certainly be interested in getting more information and possibly talking to you in the near future (next week after exams?) for an online article as one of many I hope to do over the Summer.  This could also be an article in the first issue of the paper in the Fall.  If you can send me more details about the programs you referenced, I will start working on the article and will contact you by phone to get more information.
Besides “your” article being on The Dolphin’s website all Summer, all of the articles from the paper and the website also get posted on our Facebook page.  I also took the task this semester of building our Facebook following and have grown it from 300 to 700 this semester.  Still a long way from the 20,000 students and faculty but it’s a start to get the ball rolling.  Please pass on the word about www.DelgadoDolphin.net and https://www.facebook.com/TheDolphinNewspaper.
Sincerely,
Leonard “Lenny” Vasbinder
