By Ricardo Betancourt

After Katrina, New Orleans bypassed and became one of the most influential art cities in America. Many new companies such as Defend New Orleans (DNO), New Orleans Grown and Abstract New Orleans have come together to showcase more art throughout New Orleans aside from the conventional art exhibitions like New Orleans Museum of Arts (NOMA). Many of these companies put on pop-up shops and art galleries that usually have no entry fee with some exceptions like NOMA.

DNO will be hosting a release party for their new Mango Sherbet inspired by Pell baseball cap on April, 22 at 3 p.m. at Disco Obscure on 1113 Saint Mary St. New Orleans L.A

Abstract Nola will be throwing an Artist. All ways. Always event on Sunday April 16 at 9 p.m.  at 523 Gravier St. R3fresh store.

The following artist will perform live at the event. Rahim Glapsy (Music) DJ RQ away (Music)

Palmer Park

The Arts Council’s free, open-air marketplace of artwork made by New Orleans and Gulf Coast artists. Each monthly market in Palmer Park features between 80 — 130 local artists to add to your collection. The artwork at the Arts Market is affordable and handmade, ranging from paintings, photography, printmaking, ceramics, glasswork, and jewelry to wood, handmade clothing, soap, and other things you’ll only find all together here.

While you’re browsing through art, listen to live music by Louisiana musicians and eat Louisiana food from local vendors.

The park is located at the corner of Carrollton and Claiborne Ave. from 10 a.m. — 4 p.m. and usually takes place the last Saturday of the month (except April because of Jazz Fest, it’ll be the 22nd)
