On March 18 and 19 a very special event will take place at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, nationally known as Tough Mudder. The event features a 10-12-mile obstacle course of pure mud, open to the public as a single competitor or a team. They offer four different types of courses: Tough Mudder Half, Tough Mudder, Toughest Mudder, or WTM. Some are directed towards groups, while some are for singles who have trained all year for an intense competition (WTM).
Tough Mudder was initiated by Will Dean and Guy Livingstone, two UK-born college guys, living in New York. Dean thought up the idea for Tough Mudder, while attending Harvard Business School and now it has become a hit all over the world.
Since Tough Mudder began, around 2 million people have participated in this messy challenge with over 10 million dollars raised for charity. Tough Mudder has many sponsors, such as CBS Sports, Merrell, The CW, Team Rubicon, VEGA, and the U.S. Army. Though Team Rubicon, unlike the others, has become the only “nonprofit disaster response organization that mobilizes military veterans to support communities devastated by natural disasters.” They also offer ways for you to get a piece of the fundraising action. You can fundraise for a charity of your choice within their charity list, just by participating and getting the word out to your family and friends so they can cheer you on as they donate.
So, if you’re into the fitness game or you’re looking for something exciting to do, try out this demanding obstacle course. Get your friends together and see what you’re made of while helping a special charity.
