By: Thao Nguyen

Summer is coming which means it is time to take a break. Many people decide to travel and discover new places with distinct cultures. How about going to another continent which is far away from America. Asia has been always well-known for its exclusive weather and sceneries. Below are top places that you should consider when traveling to Asia:

  1. Bali Island, Indonesia:

Bali is an island and province of Indonesia which is considered paradise on earth. It attracts tourists with its forested volcanic mountains, rice paddies, beaches and coral reefs. Bali has the most fantastical landscapes on earth: towering volcanoes wrapped in a deep green canopy, sandy shores that fade into turquoise waters and curving coastlines crowned with staggering pagodas. With the fast pace of modernization and industrialization nowadays, it is hard to find a place that is so natural and peaceful like Bali — the place you can merge yourself with nature.

  1. Siem Reap, Cambodia:

Siem Reap is a resort town in northwestern Cambodia. It is widely renowned as the gateway to Angkor Wat, the seat of the Khmer kingdom from the 9th–15th centuries. This small provincial capital boasts hundreds of sightseeing opportunities such as well-preserved colonial buildings, unique museums, traditional markets, cultural performances, and verdant parks. More than one million travelers visit Siem Reap every year to explore Khmer heritage built near Tonle Sap Lake over a thousand years ago which is the foundation of the economic power of the ancient Cambodian empire.

  1. Bangkok, Thailand:

Bangkok is Thailand’s capital which is a large city well-known for ornate shrines and vibrant street life. Bangkok is a city of contrasts: you can marvel at the gleaming temples, catch a tuk-tuk (three-wheeled taxi) to bustling Chinatown or take a longtail boat through floating markets. Food is another Bangkok highlight, where you can enjoy street food which is very cheap but tasty and diversified (look for the vendor with the longest line for the best food). Come to Bangkok and you will find a wide range of activities to amuse yourself, from the historical and religious to shopping, galleries, and spas.

  1. Hanoi, Vietnam:

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam is known for its centuries-old architecture and a rich Southeast Asian culture. The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well with famous lakes, parks, shady boulevards and more than 600 temples and pagodas in the city, which is easily explored by taxi.

Less than three hours to the east is UNESCO-protected Halong Bay, with some 2,000 craggy karsts soaring from the emerald-green Gulf of Tonkin. This is the best place to enjoy Pho — Vietnamese noodle soup which is cooked authentically and traditionally.

  1. Singapore, Singapore:

Singapore is an island city-state off southern Malaysia. It is a global financial center with a tropical climate and multicultural population. Singapore Island has many attractive destinations such as Merlion Park, Insect Kingdom, Clarke Bridge Harbor, and Esplanade Theater on the bay. Also, visitors cannot miss out on Chinatown, Singapore Zoo and Botanic Gardens, World’s Largest Freshwater River Safari and Marina Bay Sands which is designed as a yacht located on three skyscrapers. Singapore is also famous for its convenient transportation, especially neat and clean roads. Save your money for Singapore, because it is expensive – breakfast is typically $12 for what would cost $5-6 stateside.

Make sure to check for information about the visa of your destination and have enough advance time to acquire it (at least a month).
