Run The JewelsAlthough rap and hip-hop music are not my usual fare for music, this duo’s name alone really piqued my curiosity. Founded by rappers El-P and Killer Mike, Run The Jewels (RJT) released its acclaimed self-titled debut album Run The Jewels as a free digital download in 2013.

The duo’s second album Run The Jewels 2, was highly praised by both critics and fans alike when it was released in 2014. Run The Jewels 2 contains the hit single, Oh My Darling, Don’t Cry. Their most recent album, Run The Jewels 3 was likewise released digitally on December 24 2016 containing their hit single, Legend Has It.

If you like hip-hop, or you’re familiar with Run The Jewels played on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programs, check out Run The Jewels Saturday, Feb. 18 at the BUKU Music Festival in New Orleans.

Cashmere CatAt first glance, I thought Cashmere Cat was the name of a musical group, but is actually a young man from Norway whose real name is Magnus August         Hoiberg. At 30, Cashmere Cat is a DJ, record producer, musician, and turtablist.

Cashmere Cat burst on the music scene when he represented Norway in the DMC World DJ Championships as DJ Final from 2006 to 2009. Although Cashmere Cat’s musical debut was an EP titled Mirror Maru in October 2012, his first studio album is set for release in 2017.

If you have never seen a DJ turned musician/turntablist, Cashmere Cat will be performing at the BUKU Music Festival, Saturday, Feb. 18. This young man from Norway is sure to light up the city of New Orleans.

Washed Out- One act I’ll be looking forward to this year at BUKU Music + Art Project is a complex and creative artist who goes by the name: Washed Out. The creator of this masterpiece that is music is Ernest Greene. A Georgia native who pursued two degrees, but found his passion in chill-wave and hip hop influenced beats. His career started during 2009 in his bedroom studio. Once he started putting his music out there via internet people took notice and over the years he rose to where he is today, playing at national festivals and streaming his music to millions on the Spotify music app. I can hardly wait to experience what he has in store for this year’s performance.
