Is Your Dolphin I.D. Card Valid?
By Alanna benoit
As of the first day of the Spring 2017 semester all students and faculty members were required to have the new Dolphin Card. The I.D. card is used for access to all labs and libraries. The I.D. can be used at vending machines and the cafeteria. It allows free printing at all libraries and computer labs as well as being preloaded with a minimum of $5 for every student. Even though this does sound beneficial for students, issues have arisen as a result to students not knowing about the changes.
- The old cards no longer worked as of the first day of the spring semester, without sufficient notice or advertisement.
- Students unaware of the changes went to print syllabuses, PowerPoints and other materials to be prepared for the start of the semester and were caught off guard when they were told about the changes and were denied the ability to print. In result, some were late or unprepared for the first day of class.
- Students reserved computer time for discussion boards, taking quizzes or tests or other deadline sensitive work, only to find out once they’ve waited their turn, that they’re not allowed to use the computers because their necessary student ID wasn’t valid.
Despite the old cards no longer working, the same user-friendly online system to reload your account with money is still in place and bursar’s office still accepts payment and students are still allocated a printing allowance based on credit hours enrolled. Delgado students and faculty need to go to the Campus ID Center for the new ID with no cost for the first one, but if lost a replacement costs 10 dollars. The City Park Campus ID center is located in Building 1 Annex, Room 127 and is open from Monday through Friday, 8am – 4:30 P.M.
