Do it yourself gifts for Christmas

By Tiffny Harris

This is a wonderful time of year for most people. There is beautiful weather, Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. There will be plenty of food, family and gifts! Now this is where the tricky part comes in; now considering that a lot of money is spent on food, transportation, and even plane tickets, you’re not left with too much money for gifts. Don’t panic! Here are some do-it-yourself gifts that are easy and affordable.

You want something that will last a long time and the person you’re giving it to will appreciate for a long time. So the perfect do-it-yourself gift would be something like a scrapbook! This is a wonderful gift because it holds wonderful memories and is something the person receiving the gift can always go back and look at when they please. Scrapbooks are also inexpensive and very easy to make. Your local Walmart or craft store sells the supplies you will need to create the scrape book. In addition to it being inexpensive, it’s also very thoughtful.

Some people may think do-it-yourself gifts are taking the easy way out, but on the contrary, it’s actually a big time-saver. Taking the do-it-yourself route is a lot simpler then rushing to the store to buy gifts. It also eliminates standing in the long lines at the store when Christmas shopping. Not only that, but making the gift yourself cuts down the chances of someone giving them the exact same gifts that you gave them. And last but not least, when making do-it-yourself gifts you won’t have to worry about not being able to buy the gift because the store has run out of the gift you wanted to purchase. These are not all the benefits of do-it-yourself gifts but they’re the most important ones.

When talking about gifts, let’s not forget the most important part…giving! It’s not about how much you’re spending, it’s all about the thought behind it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with simply buying a gift from the store, wrapping it up and giving it to someone. But when the gift is homemade, it shows the time and effort you spent in making the gift. It lets the receiver know you actually took time out of your day to think of something and make it that would make them smile. Now that, my friends, is the real purpose of a gift.
