Sophomore second baseman garners country’s top defensive honor…

Delgado sophomore second baseman Cole Freeman has been selected as a 2015 recipient of the ABCA/ Rawlings Gold Glove Award. The award honors the top defensive player at each position, as determined by each division’s respective sport committee. The award is one of only nine presented throughout the country at the Division I level.

Freeman demonstrated remarkable defensive numbers this season, posting an impressive 73 putouts with 87 assists, turning 14 double plays while committing only 2 errors. He compiled an impressive .988 fielding percentage.

Cole attributes the award to the support of his family and teammates. He says, “This award obviously means the world to me, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. I couldn’t be happier for them, my parents, and my Delgado family. Obviously, this is really the cherry on the cake after two great years at Delgado. This isn’t just my award, but my program’s award as well.”

Head Coach Joe Scheuermann on today’s announcement: “Needless to say, it’s a great honor for Cole to be recognized as one of the nine best defensive players in the country. This is a product of Cole’s hardwork and dedication to the game. He’s been a great player for us for two years and a pleasure to Coach.”
