Delgado closes 2015 campaign

The Delgado Dolphins closed the curtain on their 2015 season Sunday, falling to San Jacinto College 12-3 in the second day of the 2015 JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

San Jacinto got things underway early with a leadoff homerun by Jon Meyer during the first at-bat of the game to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Gators added a run in the second inning when Kyle Barfield reached after being hit by a pitch, stole second base, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on an infield error.

The Gators added three runs in the third following an RBI double by Max Wood and a two-run homerun by Dalton Davis.

Delgado’s first two runs of the game came in the fourth on Kyle Bracey’s two-run homerun, scoring Cody Ducote, who reached on a leadoff single to make it a 5-2 game.

San Jacinto added a run in the sixth on a two-out double steal.

Baserunner Jon Meyer was caught stealing, while Brett Wright scored prior to the third out of the inning.

In the bottom frame of the inning, Kyle Bracey scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch as the Dolphins left two runners stranded in scoring position.

San Jacinto added a run in the sixth and exploded for six more runs in the seventh inning to close the scoring and the game enroute to San Jacinto’s 12-3 victory by virtue of the eight run rule.

Starting pitcher Jonathan Ebersole picked up his third loss of the season, pitching six innings. Laine Fontenot and Andrew Mitchell appeared in relief.

Delgado closes out the 2015 campaign with a 33-16 record, a Region XXIII title, and a South Central District
